RBI Retail Direct Scheme
RBI Retail Direct Scheme is a one-stop solution to facilitate investment in Government Securities (Central Government securities, State Government securities, Treasury Bills and Sovereign Gold Bonds) by individual investors. Under this scheme individual retail investors can open a Gilt Securities Account – “Retail Direct Gilt (RDG)” account with RBI. Using this account, retail investors can buy and sell government securities in both primary auctions and secondary market through the online portal – https://rbiretaildirect.org.in
- Retail investors (individuals) now have the facility to open and maintain the ‘Retail Direct Gilt Account’ (RDG Account) with RBI.
- RDG Account can be opened through an ‘Online portal’ provided by RBI for the purpose of the scheme.
- Retail investors would mean all individuals (natural persons). Retail investors can register under the Scheme and maintain a RDG Account, if they have the following – Rupee savings bank account maintained in India; PAN; Any OVD (Officially Valid Document) for KYC purpose, valid e-mail id and registered mobile number. Non-Resident retail investors are eligible to invest in Government Securities under Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.
- The investor can place non-competitive bids in Primary issuance of all Central Government securities (including Treasury Bills and Sovereign Gold bonds) as well as securities issued by various State Governments. The individual can also access Secondary market through NDS-OM – RBI’s trading platform.
- Minimum Investment amount of Rs. 10,000 for Government of India Treasury Bills (T-Bills), Government of India Securities (G-Sec) and State Development Loans (SGS).
- The investor will automatically receive any interest paid/maturity proceeds into his/her linked bank account on due dates.
